From my initial time in the Pre-squads, to the JNR league, the Waldon White Jones Tournaments and the JNR squads, I cannot recall a time where I left the club feeling as though I hadn’t enjoyed myself, even when I’d lost!
But what I loved most about my time at Hylands was the fact that playing tennis there was more than just turning up every week and having a knock-about; it was about being part of a family of people that all shared the same ambition, to better their skills at tennis but most of all, to enjoy themselves and this for me is what makes the club so special.
When most people think of a tennis club, they picture a small group of elitist performers that train rigorously every day. Having spent the best part of 3 years at the club, I am glad to say that Hylands is nothing like that stereotype. The fact that the club opens its doors to literally anybody, from toddlers to adults, and offers them the opportunity to better themselves at the game whilst doing so in a warm and friendly atmosphere is why I loved my time at the club as much as I did. Every time you turn up for your lesson, you feel like people are genuinely happy to see you there, everyone wants to take part and wants to do well and that is a really refreshing vibe to be around.
I can’t thank everybody at Hylands enough for having made my last 3 years there as special as they have been, and I wish everybody there great success for the future because Hylands really is a special Tennis club.
